I had horrible grades in high school and wasn't getting accepted anywhere. I started off with I think a 2.2 in my senior year and I ended CC with a 4.0 I transferred to the best school in my state and graduated it with a 4.0. Now, I'm on my second year of medical school.

This makes me feel so much better about my choice for college! I was told the exact same thing that I was "too smart for community college" so much that I believed it. I applied to 3 schools and got in to every one because I had a 3.7 GPA however financially I just couldn't afford it. I'm starting at a cc in a few weeks and now I couldn't be happier with my decision! I do plan on transferring after I get my associate degree to my state university but honestly it was the smart choice and I'll be graduating with way less debt!

Community college CAN 100% prep you for a 4yr university. I transferred from a CC to a top 10 public university in the US, and I will say CC helped me thrive here.

I am a chemistry major who transferred to Berkeley's College of Chemistry ..as for the academic challenge, I for sure had some really tough courses at CC that helped me hone/improve my study techniques and I had to put in a tremendous amount of hours in prepping for my exams.

Going from HS to City College to Top Ivy was far better than trying to go directly .... It not only saved me time and money , but I enjoyed HS far more, and eased into my early adulthood , then I switched up gears to prepare myself to attend IVY

Community college has better teachers. At universities, professors are more interested in research than teaching

Going to a CC is the best financial decision you've made. I hear high schoolers in our neighborhood say that they are going to these out-of-state universities for the "experience" knowing full well that the parents don't have the college funds for it. Lots of saving face... Kids really don't understand the gravity of having huge student loans, only the wise ones do.

Community college is also good for students who have difficult circumstances. I struggled severely with mental health for 2 years and was intermittently in the hospital. I couldn't immediately go to a four-year (even though I did get accepted into a lot of schools and had decent grades) because I wasn't psychologically ready. I also am exploring options in terms of my major that I wouldn't have been able to explore if I had went straight to a four-year.

I went to an ivy league from a community college. Life tip for the young ones, nobody cares where you started, they only care where you finish.

I went to community college and transferred to UC Berkeley. The one thing that was most noticeable was that there were more teachers around me in CC that actually wanted to teach students...I saved a lot of money going to CC...

I started at an CC and ended up graduating at an Uni and I loved starting at CC because it gave me a sense of idea what I was getting myself into instead of going straight to a university. It was smaller so the classes were smaller and gave the teachers a chance to know me. I graduated in 2019 with my bachelors in Psychology.

I have been teaching at community college for 25 years and all of this is great advice!  Congratulations on transferring and enjoy CSU life.
